Small town livin'

As I have been hanging out with my host "dad," Deecha (pronounced, I think, "Day-cha) or "Day" for short and he's got internet access in the house, I can share this snippet...

Last night, in a rare Rotary moment, there was nothing planned. Deecha's wife and "granddaughter," perhaps a neice, again had disappeared to her family's house so I was messing around on this here computer. He watched TV and napped. After a while, he awoke and we went, as he apparently does every evening, to a part of town where many people hang out, talk, and eat dessert. I had this common, popular dish that has fruit (your choice), ice shavings, and coconut milk; mine had some honeydew-ish melon, some random pink circular "fruit," and some sorta sweet nut. Deecha picked it.

We got back to the house--btw, Deecha generally travels by scooter so I just ride behind--and then Deecha said something like, "when there's nothing to do, goto night market." Most towns seem to have one. As we walked around near the food vendors, he pointed to this plate of fried insects and said, "Thai people eat everything," which seems accurate. He's a funny guy in a very low-key way. I'll miss him.
